Methodology
The Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK) is a collection of processes and
knowledge areas. They are generally accepted as best practice within the project
management discipline. There are eight areas of PMBK which come under the Project
Management endeavor. There are two primary processes interacting with each other-
a Project Management process & Product Development process. Both of these processes
are interlinked, and sometimes overlap. The Product Development process has been described in the proposal's development
methodology section. A brief outline of our Project Management process is be described
here. Typically there are five steps
- Initiating process
- Planning process
- Executing process
- Controlling process
- Closing process
The Initiating Process is where we begin the development of a Project
Plan. It recognizes that a project has been committed & necessary steps have to be taken to ensure its delivery and closure satisfactory to the customer.
In the Planning Process we do the Work Breakdown Structure (WBS) using tools such
as Microsoft Project & baseline the timeline and milestones. In Executing
Process we monitor the project and track progress and do whatever is
necessary to move the project along its path to completion.
In the Controlling Process the results of the monitoring action
are examined for corrective actions to meet project objectives. In the Closing
Process we ensure that the project has been completed and all the necessary
paperwork, record keeping etc are all completed and if necessary a post project
review scheduled.
